Description

Jennerjahn Machine offers two types of core plugging systems. Both systems automatically insert a core plug, also referred to as pad plug, into both ends of the core simultaneously for maximum efficiency.

Automatic Core Plugging System

This system automatically inserts the plugs into the cores prior to the winding process. A combination of components including a hopper, elevator, bowl feeder, and nest are used to store and orient plugs for insertion into the cores. The system features a 2-level conveyor system. The top conveyor stages the core plugs and the lower conveyor stages the cores.
Pneumatic hold down clamps secure the core while the two pad plugs are inserted into the ends of the core. The plugged core is then ejected into a large bin on casters that can be rolled to the core plug machine for processing. Alternatively, the discharge of the system can be located to eject the plugged rolls onto the infeed conveyor of the intended rewinder.

Robotic Core/Pad Plugging System

This system automatically inserts the core plugs, also referred to as pad plugs, into the cores of finished rolls once the winding process is complete. A combination of components including a hopper, elevator, bowl feeder, and nest are used to store and orient plugs for insertion into the finished rolls. Automatic core plugging is achieved through integrated robotics technology. Two robots are equipped with special end-of-arm tooling to pick a pad plug from the nest. Both robots insert their corresponding plugs into the end of the core simultaneously. A third robot is used in conjunction with the first two robots to transfer the roll to further downstream packaging equipment.
Alternatively, if only one robot is used to plug the cores, the first robot can be programmed to return to the nest to pick up the 2nd plug and insert it into the opposite end of the finished roll. The 2nd robot will rotate the finished roll during the sequence 180 degrees allowing the robot to plug the opposite end.
